Location details
Choose the base before the hotel.
Each town creates a different ride map, transfer burden and wider holiday. These are functional choices, not interchangeable hotel locations.
Bariloche
Use it for airport logistics, Circuito Chico and bike support before committing to the more remote corridor.
Villa La Angostura
A compact lakeside anchor that makes the northern corridor practical without forcing one oversized day.
San Martín de los Andes
A strong final base for the Seven Lakes route and a separate town stay, with its own airport and support implications.
Recommended accommodation

Three trip shapes that actually work.
Use the duration and base changes as constraints. Weather, operating seasons and current route conditions still need a final check.
Bariloche day-ride break
Keep one gateway base and use the scenic circuit at two lengths.
- Arrival: bike-capable transfer and build check.
- Day 2: short Llao Llao Circuito Chico.
- Day 3: full 60 km Circuito Chico if conditions suit.
- Day 4: reserve, hike or lake day; pack before departure.
Bariloche to San Martín
Three functional bases with weather margin.
- Three nights Bariloche: setup, Circuito Chico and reserve day.
- Two nights Villa La Angostura: vehicle transfer or supported ride.
- Ride the 110 km Seven Lakes corridor in one supported day or two planned stages.
- Finish with two nights San Martín for recovery and Chapelco departure.
Supported Seven Lakes journey
Buy luggage movement, extraction and route decisions together.
- Bariloche arrival and equipment day.
- Two local rides selected for wind and ability.
- Supported transfer or riding stage to Villa La Angostura.
- Divide Seven Lakes into two managed stages when desired.
- Keep a full weather reserve day before San Martín.
- Depart from Chapelco or use a pre-booked return transfer.

Detailed planningRead the full guide+
A high-value adventure cluster that must be built around real geography, not the ambiguous phrase “Patagonia cycling.”
WHY PATAGONIA REWARDS CAREFUL PLANNING
Current US keyword data shows useful apparent demand for Patagonia cycling and cycling tours, but the Patagonia apparel brand contaminates the search universe. That means the opportunity is real but the SEO strategy must be precise.
Pedal Elsewhere should build Patagonia through actual travel geographies — Bariloche / Argentine Patagonia / Chilean Patagonia and specific touring corridors — rather than create a broad page that competes with clothing queries.
IS PATAGONIA RIGHT FOR YOU?
Choose Patagonia when remoteness, scenery, mixed surfaces and adventure logistics are the purpose of the trip.
Do not choose it expecting the frictionless rental/hotel ecosystem of Mallorca or a simple one-base training week.
This is a destination where support, weather planning, transfer logistics and bike reliability can be worth paying for.
THE FIRST GEOGRAPHIC ANCHOR
Bariloche is the practical anchor. Base the trip around Bariloche and the northern Argentine Lake District, adding Villa La Angostura and the Seven Lakes corridor without trying to cover Chile and Argentina in one week.
INDEPENDENT OR SUPPORTED?
Like Costa Rica, this is a central decision.
Independent travel offers flexibility but places more responsibility on route conditions, resupply, mechanical support, language/local logistics and weather.
Supported travel may materially improve the trip where luggage movement, transfers, remote sections or mixed-surface routing are complex.
BRING, SHIP OR RENT?
A personal bike may be preferable for a serious multi-day adventure because fit, tyre setup, gearing and reliability matter. Rental becomes attractive only where the local fleet is genuinely appropriate to the route.
Shipping across borders adds customs/receiving complexity and should not be recommended until BikeFlights or another provider’s actual route/service can be verified.
A REALISTIC WEEK
A coherent first week should avoid pretending all of Patagonia fits into seven days. Choose one geographically coherent Bariloche / northern Argentine Lake District trip:
Day 1 — arrival / setup.
Day 2 — moderate orientation ride.
Day 3 — first feature mixed-surface day.
Day 4 — recovery / transfer / non-riding nature experience.
Day 5 — second feature day.
Day 6 — shorter ride / town / lake afternoon.
Day 7 — weather buffer / departure preparation.
OPERATOR SHORTLIST BY TRIP FORMAT
Compare Patagonia Pedal and Bike Tours Argentina for guided or supported riding, and 7 Lagos Bike Tour for a Seven Lakes logistics comparison. Do not treat the company names as interchangeable: compare the actual route, surfaces, bicycle, luggage movement, support vehicle, mechanical help, accommodation and weather policy.
These providers are desk-researched starting points rather than endorsements. Exact inclusions and current bike specifications must be verified directly before booking.
