Detailed planningRead the full guide

A progression-led mountain-bike week that protects hands, fatigue and confidence rather than chasing seven famous trails in seven days.

THE WEEK AT A GLANCE

Base: Moab town for a first visit unless a resort property clearly solves family/recovery needs better.

Bike: rent a properly matched trail/enduro MTB for most first-time visitors; bring/ship only when the personal bike is ideal and familiarity matters.

Vehicle: likely useful, but coordinate it with shuttle use and whether bikes are rented assembled or carried in cases.

DAY 1 — ARRIVAL / RENTAL FIT / SKILLS CHECK

Set suspension for rider weight, confirm controls, tyres, brakes and pedals, then ride an easy trail/skills area below maximum ability. This is not wasted riding; it determines whether the rental and rider are ready for the week.

DAY 2 — FIRST FULL TRAIL DAY

Choose terrain that allows the rider to learn Moab surfaces without immediately taking on the most technical objective. Choose a rider-level branch after checking current trail conditions; no single route suits everyone.

DAY 3 — FEATURE RIDE

Use the best-matched feature route for the rider's actual level. Shuttle or guide can be introduced where logistics or local knowledge materially improve the day. A famous route is not automatically the right route.

DAY 4 — RECOVERY / NON-RIDER DAY

Full rest or very short easy spin. Hiking, river or another Moab experience can sit here. This is also the day to resolve bike issues before the second half of the week.

DAY 5 — SHUTTLE OR GUIDED FEATURE DAY

Use the dedicated shuttle-versus-guide-versus-self-guided framework. A guide is not simply a premium version of a shuttle; each solves a different problem.

DAY 6 — SECOND TRAIL SYSTEM / PROGRESSION DAY

Ride something different rather than repeat fatigue. A rider whose hands/shoulders/confidence are declining should downgrade, not escalate because the itinerary says “feature day.”

DAY 7 — SHORT FINAL SESSION

Choose an accessible ride with enough time to clean/return rental or inspect/repack a personal bike. Do not put the highest-consequence trail immediately before a flight home.

DAY 8 — DEPARTURE

Rental riders return according to shop timing. Personal-bike riders should have already solved case, vehicle and packing logistics rather than improvise them at checkout.

BOOKING ORDER

1. Establish rider level and trail ambitions honestly.

2. Decide trail/enduro category and rental vs personal bike.

3. Choose Moab town vs resort-style accommodation.

4. Book rental/ship/flight bike logistics.

5. Decide vehicle + shuttle architecture.

6. Add guide/coaching where it improves safety/progression/logistics.

7. Keep exact trail days flexible for conditions and fatigue.
