A seven-night mixed holiday where cycling anchors the trip but wildlife, landscape and recovery are part of the design.

THE WEEK AT A GLANCE

Structure: two regions maximum — Arenal/La Fortuna first, then the Guanacaste/Papagayo coast. This gives the flagship a mountain/adventure half and a beach/recovery half without trying to “see Costa Rica” in seven nights.

Trip type: lean supported/semi-supported for the first flagship because transfers, surfaces and local logistics are part of the product value.

Bike: lean rental/support fleet unless the trip is cycling-first and the operator/vehicle chain is built around a personal bike.

DAY 1 — ARRIVAL / TRANSFER

For this Arenal + Guanacaste version, compare San José versus Liberia using total transfer time, flight economics and operator logistics rather than airfare alone. Transfer to Arenal/La Fortuna as the first base and avoid adding a meaningful ride after a long travel day.

DAY 2 — ORIENTATION RIDE

Moderate road/gravel/mixed-surface ride matched to the actual bike. Use it to validate heat/humidity response, surfaces, braking and fit.

DAY 3 — FIRST FEATURE CYCLING DAY

Longer supported or independently validated route. Fuel/hydration planning should reflect heat and duration. The commercial content belongs around the support/rental decision, not in a string of nutrition links.

DAY 4 — ADVENTURE / WILDLIFE / TRANSFER

This is deliberately non-riding or very light. Move to the second region if needed. A curated activity can be central here rather than an affiliate afterthought.

DAY 5 — SECOND FEATURE RIDE

Use a different landscape/surface profile. The exact region and route should be chosen after deeper current research rather than hard-coded while the content library is still in draft.

DAY 6 — RIDE BEFORE LUNCH

Shorter morning ride followed by beach, wildlife, wellness or family time. This should become one of Pedal Elsewhere's clearest examples of cycling fitting into a premium holiday rather than dominating it.

DAY 7 — FLEX DAY

Weather buffer, short ride or second non-riding experience. If the first feature day was disrupted, use this day rather than forcing the itinerary through unsafe/poor conditions.

DAY 8 — DEPARTURE

Rental/support bike return should already be integrated into transfer logistics. Personal-bike travellers need additional packing/vehicle margin.

BOOKING ORDER

1. Choose independent vs supported.

2. Select two compatible regions and the correct gateway.

3. Decide bike category and rental vs personal bike.

4. Book accommodations/transfer architecture.

5. Add feature rides and support.

6. Add only the non-riding experiences that make the two-region trip better.

7. Keep exact ride days flexible around weather.
