Where to stay for a Costa Rica cycling trip

Pair an adventure-oriented Arenal base with a coastal recovery base only when bike handling and transfers genuinely work.

Working trip: Arenal/La Fortuna → Guanacaste/Papagayo.

ARENAL / LA FORTUNA

Default → adventure-oriented hotel with practical bike handling and easy operator pickup.

Premium/recovery → wellness/hot-spring/resort profile that makes the non-riding side of Arenal valuable.

Value → town/practical base with operator access and secure bike arrangement.

GUANACASTE / PAPAGAYO

Default → beach/resort property where cycling support can actually collect/return bikes and equipment can be stored securely.

Premium → resort experience is allowed to be a major reason for the second base because the itinerary intentionally includes recovery/non-rider time.

Value → coastal/town alternative only if it preserves ride and transfer logistics.

Do not label a luxury resort cycling-friendly until bike handling is directly verified.
