POLLENÇA / PORT DE POLLENÇA

Choose the north when the riding is the priority. The area gives convenient access toward the Tramuntana and northern objectives, while still supporting easier days. Port de Pollença adds resort convenience and a flatter immediate environment; inland Pollença offers a different town atmosphere. Confirm the exact accommodation's bike-storage and breakfast arrangements rather than assuming cycling facilities.

Best for: mountain-focused road trips, groups that want to ride from the door, first-time Mallorca cycling trips centred on the north.

Trade-off: farther from Palma's city experience and airport than a Palma base.

ALCÚDIA / PORT D’ALCÚDIA

Alcúdia works well when the group wants broad accommodation infrastructure and access to both inland terrain and the mountains. It can be a strong compromise for mixed-ability groups because every ride need not begin with major climbing.

Best for: mixed groups, resort convenience, riders wanting mountain and flatter options.

Trade-off: choose the exact location carefully; the character and riding access can differ between historic Alcúdia and the resort areas.

PALMA

Palma is the choice when cycling is part of a city holiday rather than the only reason for the trip. Airport logistics are simpler and evenings offer the broadest urban choice. The cost is that the classic northern riding is no longer on the doorstep.

Best for: couples/groups mixing cycling with restaurants, culture and city time; shorter trips where airport convenience matters.

Trade-off: more route planning or transfers if the primary objectives are in the north or deeper Tramuntana.

SÓLLER / PORT DE SÓLLER

Sóller places you inside a dramatic mountain environment. For strong climbers this can be a feature; for riders seeking easy recovery mileage it can be a constraint. Route choice is naturally shaped by surrounding terrain.

Best for: experienced riders deliberately choosing a mountain-centred stay.

Trade-off: less flexibility for flat/easy days and potentially more complicated transfers.

THE FIVE-QUESTION BASE TEST

Before booking, ask:

1. Which two or three rides are the trip's priorities?

2. Can they begin from the accommodation without a vehicle transfer?

3. What does an easy/recovery day look like from this base?

4. What do non-riders want to do while the group rides?

5. Can the airport transfer actually carry the passengers, luggage and bike cases?

HOTEL FILTER FOR CYCLISTS

Confirm secure bicycle storage; bike-in-room policy; empty-case storage; laundry/drying options; breakfast timing; early checkout/breakfast arrangements; practical access for a large transfer vehicle; and whether there is enough room to assemble or organise equipment without blocking a hotel corridor.

BRING OR RENT CHANGES THE BASE DECISION

Renting removes the empty-case problem and can make a smaller hotel room workable. Bringing your own bike increases the importance of transfer capacity, storage and assembly space. Use the Pedal Elsewhere bring-versus-rent guide before locking the hotel.

DECISION SUMMARY

Choose Pollença/Port de Pollença when riding access leads the decision. Choose Alcúdia when flexibility and resort infrastructure matter. Choose Palma when the city is a major part of the holiday. Choose Sóller when you deliberately want mountain terrain to define the trip.

VERIFY BEFORE TRAVEL
